The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) has recently posted on its health information privacy website two consumer brochures:

  1. Privacy and Your Health Information, and
  2. Your Health Information Privacy Rights.

These two documents are available in the following eight languages:

  1. Chinese,
  2. Korean,
  3. Polish,
  4. Russian,
  5. Spanish,
  6. Tagalog,
  7. Vietnamese, and
  8. English.

The Privacy and Your Health Information document describes the HIPAA Privacy Rule and explains who must comply, what information is protected, how this information can be shared, and what rights are granted to individuals under the Privacy Rule.

The Health Information Privacy Rights document describes the individual rights granted by the Privacy Rule, including:

  • the right to access your medical records,
  • the right to request an accounting of disclosures, and
  • the right to file a complaint for a potential violation of the Privacy Rule.

In addition, OCR has posted information in these languages about how to file a privacy complaint, along with translated privacy complaint forms.
