All the ways our Overseas Assistance Center helps you manage your healthcare needs around the world:

  • We waive copays for inpatient care
  • Use any covered provider overseas
  • Cashless access to overseas care
  • Access our overseas network with over 11,000 providers
  • Get reimbursed for claims in local currency or U.S. dollars
  • In most cases, your copays and coinsurance amounts are the same as they would be in the U.S.
  • Overseas case managers help you navigate complex/chronic conditions
  • We provide language translation and foreign currency conversion for overseas claims

Overseas Network

We have over 11,000 providers who participate in our overseas network*, including hospitals, clinics, doctors and specialists. Many of these providers have agreed to a direct billing arrangement with our Overseas Assistance Center vendor, GeoBlue®. They accept our allowance as payment in full for their services and also file your claims for you.

*Members who find a provider through their MyBlue account will have access to additional provider information including address, phone number, specialty and more.

To arrange direct billing and cashless access with your provider, you must contact the Overseas Assistance Center prior to receiving medical services.

Pharmacy coverage

Your pharmacy coverage works outside the U.S.* But since there are no Preferred retail pharmacies overseas, you need to pay for your prescriptions out-of-pocket and then submit your receipts and a completed claim form to get reimbursed. Overseas prescription drug claims must be submitted within one year of the purchase date.

The FEP Medicare Prescription Drug Program (MPDP) is only available to residents of the U.S. or a U.S. territory—it does not work outside of the U.S. If you have MPDP, you cannot purchase prescription drugs and receive reimbursement for prescription drugs purchased overseas. If you need to submit an MPDP claim for prescription drugs purchased in the U.S., you can download and submit a completed claim form.

If you take a maintenance medication and you intend to go overseas for an extended period of time, you may be eligible for an extended filling of the prescription before you leave the U.S. This will require a 12-month prescription from your doctor and is not applicable for controlled substances. Contact our Pharmacy Program at 1-800-624-5060 to learn more.

*The FEP Medicare Prescription Drug Program (MPDP) is only available to residents of the U.S. or a U.S. territory. Guam is considered overseas; however, some pharmacies may be able to bill electronically.
