How to Master Working at Home
Working at home—sounds easy, right? You sit down, pull out a computer, lay out some papers and start working. But sometimes the work just doesn’t happen.
What makes working at home so difficult is that home is where we’re most comfortable. It’s the same place we relax, have fun and usually don’t do work. The key to maximizing your productivity is to do some self-reflecting and see all the ways your current setup isn’t working. These tips can help you get started:
1. Make
a to-do list
It’s a tradition for a
reason: it works really well. Writing out a list of what you need to do is a good
way to focus on what needs to be done and to hold yourself accountable. Plus,
checking things off provides a satisfying feeling of progress.
2. Get
moving
When you’re feeling
stuck, the best decision might be to get moving. Walks have been shown to be good for your brain health, and getting some fresh air can improve your overall concentration. Be sure to sign up for the Online Health Coach to help you set activity goals. Eligible Standard and Basic
Option members may be able to earn $40 for each goal completed, up to three,
for $120 total.
3. Create
a routine
Set up specific times
where you’ll only focus on work. Pick a time of day that you find yourself most
productive. Be sure to include some time for breaks, too.
4. Avoid
distractions
House chores like
cleaning or laundry can distract you from your work without feeling like
procrastination. Add a few to your to-do list that can be done quickly and
leave the bigger chores for the weekend.
Most importantly, don’t give up if you’re not as productive as you want to be. Finding a setup that works for you takes time. With some experimentation you’ll quickly find what works and what doesn’t.
